1- Christian Karembeu and Real Madrid 1998/2000
French midfielder Christian Karembeu joined Real Madrid from Sampdoria in the midseason of the 1997/98 season after a tug-of-war involving Barcelona.
His first half season at Real Madrid was solid and he won the Champions League.
However, starting his first full season (1998/99) and the following season (1999/2000), he was overlooked by successive Real Madrid Managers (Guus Hiddink, John Toshack, Vicente Del Bosque) and was often benched.
In the end he had no option but to leave and joined Middlesbrough in 2000.

Dutch forward Peter van Vossen joined Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 1993 after a solid season Internationally and for his Belgian club Anderlecht.
However, he was unable to crack the starting lineup in Louis van Gaal’s young and emerging Ajax side and often made appearances as a substitute.
In the summer of 1995, he joined Turkey’s Istanbulspor and then Rangers Glasgow.
